1.) https://www.cnn.com/2018/02/21/europe/montenegro-us-embassy-grenade-intl/index.html RANKING NEWS COMPONENTS 1.) Timeliness- 10/10 I give it a perfect score because it happened today and was recently updated. 2.) Consequence- 8/10 I also gave it a 10 because it affected many people but not us specifically. 3.) Prominence- 10/10 This story is very important and has an effect on the world, specifically the US. 4.) Proximity- 5/10 This event did not happen in America, but was a US embassy 5.) Human Interest- 7/10 Many may be interested in this, but it is more important than interesting. SPECIFIC ARTICLE http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/22556460/los-angeles-rams-agree-trade-kansas-city-chiefs-cornerback-marcus-peters WORTH REMEMBERING This article is about a trade made between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Los Angeles Rams for Cornerback Marcus Peters. This is important because Peters is a pro bowl corner that has made 25 interceptions in three years, which easily leads the league. He is a well known player, and this was the second major trade made this offseason; the first being the Alex Smith trade between the Chiefs and the Redskins. The last thing to remember from this article is that although the deal has been made, they have not released what the Rams gave the Chiefs for Peters. However, we do know that no other players are involved, only draft picks.

Kim Jong Un and North Korea are running out of money on his "slush fund" after wasting it on various missile launches. This is worth remembering because it will restrict them from testing more missiles, which makes them even less threatening. 2.) The XFL is returning in 2020. Even though they weren't very successful last time. This is worth remembering if you like football or want to watch a new league. It may be more successful this time because unlike the NFL, they will not allow players to protest the National Anthem. Also, any fans of Johnny Manziel (such as me) will be thrilled because he plans on playing for a team. 3.) Canadian billionaire and his wife were murdered. This is important because they were important people, and this is a major homicide that could impact lives. INTERESTING JOURNALISTIC STYLE One journalistic style I noticed while reading the murder of the Canadian billionaire article, was that they started off short and to the point. It immediately started off by stating who was murdered and when it occurred. I found it interesting because it proved there doesn't need to be any build up to a news article, and in fact, keeping it simple and direct is sometimes the best. 3 Things I read that are worth remembering:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/worldviews/wp/2018/01/19/shirtless-putin-takes-icy-religious-plunge-and-yes-there-are-photos/?utm_term=.f1f32709713c "Shirtless Putin takes icy religious plunge, and yes, there are photos" 1. It is important to remember that Putin took the plunge for religious purposes, not just for fun. 2. From the article about the five best players the Chicago Bears could draft with the #8 overall pick, It is important to remember who the players are and what makes them great and important. 3. China is supplying North Korea with coal while America watched from above. This violated UN sanctions. The shirtless Putin article started off interesting by saying, "The President appears healthy." This lead intrigued me, and made the article seem exciting and interesting. I learned about this artistic lead, and can use it to make readers interested in my articles from the beginning. Bears draft Review Review The thesis of this article is that the Chicago Bears did not have a good draft. The “experts” say that the Bears should not have traded for the number 2 overall pick to select Mitchell Trubisky because some believe they could have drafted him at number 3 and some think Trubisky is too inexperienced for the NFL and would like to have seen him play another year at college. They didn’t support this very much but did say it was a huge gamble for the Bears and gave them a D grade. I am just reviewing the first round pick and not the others because I don’t know enough about the other picks. I personally disagree with their claims. Drafting a quarterback in the first round was a great idea and a solid quarterback is something the Bears have needed for a long time. I also want to add that teams were trying to trade the 49ers for their second overall pick to jump ahead of the Bears and “steal” Trubisky. I feel it is appropriate to make the trade and I’m glad the Bears did. |
